Vintage Style Baby Hat

I already know what my New Year's Resolution for 2013 is going to be!!!! It is to finish one thing before I start the next. There is absolutely no chance that I'll keep it up, but if I can improve just a little it will be a good thing.
I started designing this pixie hat way back in the summer. There are pixie hats out there already, but I've never been able to find one in a double knit yarn in a range of sizes, so I decided to create my own. It was all designed - many hats knitted to test out all the sizes and yardage, but I just never got round to writing it up!!!! Well a few wet days, and the need to stay in whilst some house maintenance was being done, meant I actually got round to finishing it off.

I love the way it frames the face, and I think the pixie point is just about right - not so pointy that it's only used as a photo prop, but pointy enough to be cute.
Some of the photos in the pattern are darker than I would have liked...... but as I said..... they were wet, winter days.
I've given instructions for 4 sizes of hat from birth to toddler, and you can choose to have a chin strap if you've got a little wriggler,

or ties if its for an older baby or toddler.

I've also written the instructions in both "knit in the round" and "knit flat" format, so I've aimed to please everyone.
It's a good hat to knit because you don't get bored - you are either increasing or decreasing, and it knits up quite quickly. You can finish it in a couple of evenings.
I hope you like it!

My Day on the UR Priceless Blog Hop

Yay! It's finally here - my day on the UR Priceless Blog Hop. It's the day I get to share with you what I've been making. If you are one of the hoppers and are new to my blog, then Welcome! I hope you like what you see!
We have all been making coin purses
The hop is hosted by  Katherine and I need to say a big thank you to Madame Samm  of sewwequilt for providing us all with such a great patten and incredibly detailed step by step photos which ensured that making these was an absolute breeze! You can also buy the pattern on her blog page here

For my first purse I decided that now was the time to break into my new Liberty fabrics fat quarter bundle and make the purse you see at the top of this post. It was the first time I had used a sewn in frame, and there was certainly a lot less swearing than there is with the glue in type. You know if it's not quite to your liking you can undo it and start again, and there's no danger of nasty glue spills just where you don't want them. To sew the fabric into the frame I used a strong linen thread that I normally use for bookbinding. I waxed it first and it worked really well.
For my second purse I indulged in a little embroidery. When drawing on the design I totally forgot about the 1/4" of fabric in the top seam allowance, so the flower is a little higher than I had intended, but I think it works, OK - soft subtle colours - just right for the person, who I can't mention, who will receive this at Christmas.

My final purse is made using some Lu Summers fabric called Summersville. I fell in love with this fabric when I saw it, and I'm amazed I was strong willed enough to cut into it to make this purse. If you love it too then you can buy it here

Well that's my first ever blog hop done. I loved every minute of it, so I'm sure I'll be entering some more.

UR Priceless Bloghop

A few weeks ago, with some trepidation, but a lot of excitement, I joined my very first blog-hop. Today that blog-hop started!
We were sent a pattern for a metal framed purse and we were then free to make it in whatever style we chose. My day is the very last day, November 13th, so I have a whole week of watching and waiting, before I can post the photos of my efforts, but it's great fun seeing what everyone whose turn was today, has made.
If you like making purses, or are thinking about making a purse for the first time, and would like some ideas for making your own, then why not follow the blog-hop and take a peek at what
everyone is making. You will find the schedule of participants here
It's going ot be a fun filled week, with lots of inspiration for Christmas gifts.
