Fresh Sewing Day - September

September - the start of the new school year, and for my daughter-in-law the start of a career as a teacher. We all think about the kids, but sometimes it's a new start for the teacher's too!
So what was achieved in August? Looking back, I finished a lot more than I thought I did.

First there was the Garden Trellis quilt, I'm really pleased with this.
Then there was four-patch baby quilt, with some hand quilting. I really enjoyed doing this, but the baby that it was for, that I felt certain (but for no good reason) would be a boy, turned out to be a GIRL!!!!

So I had to quickly turn round and make this bunting for her instead!
And finally, not a complete finish, but a segment finish - the first row of the Row Along (quilt along) over on Bee in my Bonnet

Hopes for September? Well, firstly get further than putting the fabric together for the How Far Will You Go Quilt Along which is all I've achieved so far!, and secondly make a Kindle cover before I go on my hols and get it all scratched with sand!! The rest can be serendipity.

  1. Women's intuition obviously failed you this time, I do like the emergency bunting though, very pretty!

  3. I love the blue quilt! My oldest daughter had quite a few blue things as a baby because I was convinced she was going to be a boy!

    1. I think it's nice to put girls in blue sometimes - makes a change to all that pink!

  4. I love your four-patch quilt. Looks like you made an excellent job of plan B. I picked your blog up from Lily's Quilts. Looking forward to a bit of back reading and future reading.

  5. Love the blue baby quilt. If I had a daughter you'd be more than welcome to make her one cause I'm not into pinks. 100 years back or so pink was actually treated as a boy colour whilst blue was recommended for girls. Gendering colours is sooooo not neccessary. Lovely bunting, though! :)

    1. I tend to agree, and it is nice to see girls in blue sometimes, but boys in pink? Not sure about that.

  6. hi Julie, linking up from Lynne's small blog meet up. You've had a busy month in August, with some gorgeous finishes. I'm in Australia, so September means Spring and nearly the end of our third term of the school year - funny how it's so different in the northern and southern hemispheres isn't it. Hope your daughter is happy with her new class - my sister is a high school maths teacher, and at the moment she is counting down the days til our two weeks of holidays later in September!! see you, Cat

  7. Love the Trellis quilt. I'm a teacher in Ontario, Canada and I have trouble sleeping the night before the first day of school even after 26 years! I hope your daughter-in-law enjoys here new job.

  10. I found you via Lily Quilts. I know I was supposed to go two up and two down but everyone was just too young so I decided to click on various links and I chose you. I love your blog and have become a follower and I love your baby quilt to pieces too.
